– Portuguese quote and it couldn’t be more right! It seems the rain has come to stay for a while, ruining completely my Spring walks and plans.

I decided to do something more comfortable and fulfilling for these colder days – bread. I really like to bake bread at home, but it is something that requires a lot of time and energy, and I admit it, that is the reason why I don’t do it so often.

However, the other day – the most rainy and darkest day – I could find my inner strength to pull up my sleeves and colocar as mãos na massa – another Portuguese quote and which means literarily put the hands on the dough!

For this bread it is needed:

250 g flour | farinha
80 g pumpkin | abóbora
80 g walnuts | nozes
50 g brown sugar | açúcar amarelo
20 g butter at room temperature | manteiga à temperatura ambiente
3 g yeast | fermento de padeiro
Pinch of salt | pitada de sal
Warm water | água morna

Cook the pumpkin. After that, reduce it to puree.
Coza a abóbora. Depois, reduzi-la a um puré.

Dissolve the yeast in a small quantity of warm water.
Dissolver o fermento numa pequena quantidade de água morna.

In a big recipient, mix all the ingredients – including the smashed pumpkin and yeast – and knead the dough; keep adding flour until the dough doesn’t glue to the hands anymore.
Num recipiente, misturar todos os ingredientes – incluindo a abóbora e o fermento – e amassar; adicionar mais farinha se necessário até que deixe de agarrar às mãos.

Let the dough in a warm place resting and covered with a kitchen towel for an hour or so, or until it doubles. Separate the dough in several breads and give them the shape you want. Bake the bread in a really hot oven (200ºC) until it gains a golden and crispy look.
Deixar a massa repousar num lugar quente, tapada com uma toalha de cozinha, cerca de 1 hora ou até ter crescido o dobro. Pré-aquecer o forno a 200º C. Separar a massa em várias bolas e dar-lhes o formato que desejar. Levar a cozer ao forno bem quente até terem crescido.

Abril, águas mil – já o ditado dizia e não podia deixar de estar certo! Parece que a chuva veio para ficar durante uns tempos, arruinando completamente as minhas caminhadas e planos de Primavera.

Nestes últimos dias frios, decidi fazer algo ao que chamo confortável e aconchegante – pão. Gosto muito de fazer pão em casa, mas é algo que leva tempo e energia, e admito que é por isso que não o faço tantas vezes quanto gostaria.

Mas, no outro dia – no dia mais chuvoso e escuro -, fui buscar a minha força interior, arregacei as mangas e coloquei as mãos na massa – literalmente!

Este pão é perfeito para comer a qualquer hora, quente ou frio, com manteiga, geleia ou sem nada.

      Yes, it is true; although they’re rich in fat, walnuts are still great for your health as they are rich in protein too. It is good especially for the heart and blood system.
      Your walnut and broccoli party salad looks delicious! Super healthy and nutritious!
