Midnight Cookies | Bolachas da Meia-Noite

Devaneios de Chocolate. Chocolate cookiesIt was early October. It was raining cats and dogs. The window was open. It was dark. It was almost midnight.

M. was alone at home. She was watching a poor and pathetic horror movie. A big lightning flash entered the living room and reveals a horrifying shadow at the window. M. screams. But what’s the point? She was all alone and no one could help her escaping from a painful death.

She runs… M. runs directly to the kitchen, her sanctuary. She closes the door and barricades the door with the kitchen table. Someone or something is knocking at the door. Knock. Knock. Knock. Three times, with long pauses between each knock. Knock….Knock….Knock….

M. have to think fast. What’s to do in a situation like this? What would you do? She could always grab some kitchen knives and fight with the enemy. Or she could wait until E., her superhero, gets home and save her from the devil. But there’s no time. She had to do something really fast.

She turns the oven on. She dresses her apron with the message Keep Calm and Don’t Stress, I’m Baking. She mix some magical ingredients – 100 g of butter, 120 g of sugar, ½ tablespoon of honey, 1 teaspoon of vanilla essence, 120 g of flour, 35 g of cocoa powder and a pinch of salt.

She makes some small balls with the dough and takes them to the oven (180º C) for about 10 to 15 minutes. Knock….Knock….Knock…. The cookies are ready, it is midnight and the knocking is getting stronger and stronger. It seams the door won’t old the beast much longer…

Devaneios de Chocolate. Cookies
She takes the cookies. She is ready to fight the enemy. She knows it. The cookies are always a great weapon to fight hangry spirits. She opens the door and… and…

Halloween cookies. Devaneios de ChooclateHad fun in working with sugar paste. Tried the best I could!

The enemy reveals to be very attractive. He was wet and shaking with cold. He says: “Glad you made some cookies. I’m hungry. Do you want some tea?”

M. and E. watched the rest of the horror movie and ate all the cookies. They laugh at M.’s frightening night. They didn’t notice the shadow at the window.

Muahahahahaha! (Pure evil laugh)

Era princípios de Outubro. Estava a chover a potes. A janela estava aberta. Estava escuro.

Ela liga o forno. Veste o avental com a mensagem escrita de Keep Calm and Don’t Stress, I’m Baking.

Ela abre a porta e… e…

O inimigo afinal é bem atraente. Estava molhada e a tremer de frio. Ele diz: “Que bom que tenhas feito umas bolachas. Estou faminto!

Muahahahahaha!

    1. Thank you very much Lynz! 🙂 Clare was very kind to talk about our blogs. I was really surprise when she told me that her next post was about some cooking blogs.
PS: I like your blog too! 😀

  1. We were in the Algarve last Halloween and in the schools there seemed to be a lot of dressing up and the children paraded around town with their teachers. Is this a common part of your All Saints Day celebrations? 🙂

    1. Oh, it’s a pity not having trick-or-treat! Why won’t kids go into the woods, visit the nice lady – which is you – and her nice cats?
In Portugal we don’t have trick-or-treat – neither Halloween, like I said in the post -, but we have a religious tradition similar to it, the Pão-por-Deus – https://devaneiosdechocolate.wordpress.com/2014/11/01/broas-and-pao-por-deus/
PS: I only watch horror movies when I’m with somebody 😛
