Portuguese Gastronomy, Cod “à Brás” Style | Bacalhau à Brás

I think, we Portguese, have to serve the ones that visit Portugal for the first time, cod in other way than just boiled.

Don’t get me wrong; I love simple boiled cod with some boiled potatoes and vegetables, but compared with all the other ways of eating cod, this is, in my opinion, the most boring one.

And if we Portuguese have soooooooo many ways of eating and preparing and serving cod, why not give to know one of the classics of the Portuguese gastronomy, the marvelous Cod “à Brás” Style?

Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Seeds Biscotti | Biscotti de Batata Doce e Sementes de Abóbora

Home alone with the four leg companion, old roasted sweet potatoes that nobody wants to eat, fresh coffee and a beautiful end of a Fall afternoon inviting me to seat outside and see the sun coming down.

The only thing that must be done is to grab those old sweet potatoes and transform them in something new. You know how it is: we roast some potatoes and once in a while, there is one or two that nobody wants to eat because they have a strange and odd look, too many days or they aren’t that sweet at all…

We’ve all ate ratatouille in some point of our lives. And then you say “oh, but no, I’ve never ate such thing!”. Wrong. In one or another way, we all have.

Ratatouille has a really fancy name and it’s a French classic in cuisine, but the truth is, it’s nothing more than a mixture of vegetables in a pan. And who has never prepared such thing? Arriving home, grap all the veggies in the fridge, cut them in pieces, throw them to a pan, season them and eat?

Cinnamon & Chocolate Roll | Caracóis de Canela e Chocolate

And Fall is here and finally I can breath. I love Fall; every change – the colors, the temperature, the light, the smell -, are fantastic. When I say this to someone, people look at me as I was crazy – don’t get me wrong; I love Summer but for me and for what I do, it is a very busy time.
